Vimeo storage and bandwidth limits: what the 2 TB threshold means

Storage is the library you keep; bandwidth is the data delivered to viewers. Vimeo’s general plan documentation lists a 2 TB monthly bandwidth threshold for Free, Starter, Standard and Advanced. It is not a universal limit for every Vimeo contract or a promise of instant suspension when crossed.

Read the plan name and usage report inside your account, then confirm any renewal or custom terms. A storage allowance cannot be added to a bandwidth allowance: the two quantities measure different things.
A threshold, outreach and possible restrictions
Vimeo’s bandwidth policy describes notifications, followed by possible direct outreach when usage exceeds 2 TB in two months within a year, or 10 TB in one month. It gives seven days from direct outreach to resolve the issue; unresolved accounts risk temporary suspension. This is not a blanket immediate cutoff at 2 TB.
The policy also allows discretionary exemptions, including some creative professionals showcasing their work. Check eligibility with Vimeo rather than assuming a portfolio must upgrade. Custom bandwidth pricing requires a quote.

Estimate traffic without treating every play as a full download
Illustrative estimate: delivered video bitrate × watched seconds ÷ 8 gives megabytes when bitrate is in Mbps. At an assumed 10 Mbps, five minutes is about 375 MB; 2,000 GB is roughly 5,333 such complete plays before audio, player overhead, downloads and other traffic.
This is arithmetic, not a forecast of your Vimeo rendition. Actual delivery quality, partial watches, repeat plays and downloads change usage. Use the provider’s usage report for billing decisions, and include a margin for a campaign peak.
Before changing platforms
Choose the host around the active library, expected traffic, team and required workflow. UC’s published Terms have no per-view charge or bandwidth cap, subject to its service conditions. UC hot and cold pools are storage allowances: archived films must be restored before playback, and a high-bitrate original still needs adequate viewer connectivity.
Check UC storage and seats and plan restore headroom. Keep backups and test one website embed before replacing a library because of a projected traffic bill.

They depend on the plan and contract. The current general table lists 1 GB, 2 TB, 4 TB and 7 TB storage for Free, Starter, Standard and Advanced respectively, each with 2 TB monthly bandwidth. Vimeo Studio separately lists 10 TB storage and 36 TB yearly bandwidth with no monthly cap.
Is bandwidth the same as storage?
No. Storage measures the files you retain; bandwidth measures delivery traffic. Repeated viewing can increase traffic without adding anything to the stored library.
Does passing the threshold automatically stop my videos?
Do not infer an immediate cutoff from the threshold. Review the notification and direct-outreach process, any exemption and the account-specific resolution requested by Vimeo.
Can a play count predict my exact bill?
No. You also need the delivered bitrate or file sizes, watch duration, other traffic and applicable rates. Use the provider’s usage report and quote rather than treating the illustrative arithmetic as a bill.
