BEFORE YOU BEGIN
A few answers.
What does ‘no re-encoding’ actually mean?
We store and stream the video file you upload, without creating another compressed playback version. You choose the codec and bitrate at export. The name uncompressed.io does not mean every file is raw, uncompressed video, and we cannot restore detail already lost before upload.
Will my clients need an app?
For exports their browser supports, no. They open the link and can leave notes without creating an account. H.264 is usually the simplest starting point for web sharing. HEVC support varies by browser and device. ProRes and supported camera formats use the macOS app; Vault also requires the app.
What if a client has a slow connection?
The player streams your export, so the connection needs to sustain its bitrate for smooth playback. A file that is too demanding may buffer. Choose an export suited to the recipient or enable an original-file download. Our Resolve, Premiere and Final Cut guides help you prepare the review.
Can I import all my Vimeo videos?
Yes. Connect Vimeo and import all your videos, with no limit on the number of imports. We prefer the original source Vimeo retained; otherwise, the importer identifies the available re-encoded version. Existing Vimeo links, comments and analytics stay at Vimeo. Verify your imports and replace your embeds before cancelling that service.
What can I do for free?
Starter includes 5 GB and one film at a time, with no credit card and no trial deadline. Test the player, your branding and client review. Paid plans start at USD 9/month or USD 90/year. Free storage may be removed after 90 days of inactivity, with advance notice.
Do I pay for every client who watches?
No. External viewers and reviewers are free and unlimited. Seats are for people on your team: 1 on Lite, 1 on Pro, 2 on Max and 5 on Studio. Additional seats cost USD 15/month. Storage and some allowances, including caption generation, vary by plan.
Do I keep my films and my links?
Your films remain yours, and you can download the original files you uploaded. Replacing a version inside uncompressed.io keeps that film’s link and embeds. Existing Vimeo links do not automatically become uncompressed.io links. Keep your own backups too. Our terms prohibit using your content to train AI models.
What is the difference between streaming and archive storage?
Ready-to-stream storage holds films you can play, embed and review. Archive storage is for files you do not need to stream immediately. Restore archived files into your ready-to-stream storage before playback. You need enough available capacity; restoration time depends on the file and transfer. Every paid plan includes archive storage.
Do additional views cost more?
No. Streaming is unlimited on every plan, with no streaming overage fees. Your bill depends on your plan, storage, team seats and the add-ons you choose.
