These images use the same master and frame. The recorded test procedure was to upload the same master, wait for processing, and capture matching playback frames. This is an in-house demonstration, not an independent benchmark. For a purchase decision, compare your own film on your client’s hardware too.
The bitrate story, measured.
A second encode can change fine detail. Bitrate is one factor, alongside codec, source complexity and playback conditions. Compare the actual frame, not just the data rate.
Your export in the browser
A compatible H.264 export is a practical starting point for a review that opens easily. Test HEVC, AV1 and high-bitrate files on your client’s device.
Originals in the macOS app
R3D, BRAW, N-RAW and ProRes are supported on compatible Macs. Native playback and a web proxy’s bitrate measure different things; playback depends on hardware and the file.

No bandwidth surprises.
Vimeo’s self-serve pricing lists 2 TB of monthly bandwidth. Exceeding the allowance may lead to a discussion about usage or a suitable plan. Storage quotas are separate, and legacy accounts can follow different rules. Check your actual use before comparing costs.
Is 2 TB of view data a lot?
It depends on the bytes actually delivered. If each completed viewing transferred 2 GB, 1,000 views would total about 2 TB. A 2 GB uploaded file does not mean each Vimeo view transfers 2 GB: its renditions can be smaller, and viewers may watch only part of the film. Check your real delivery analytics.

We buffer instead of degrading
We keep your uploaded export instead of generating an adaptive ladder. A connection that cannot sustain its bitrate may buffer. For a client on a slower connection, upload a lighter compatible export and test it. Preserving the file and reaching every device are different priorities.
The macOS app can review locally available files without network transfer during that playback. Download time depends on project size and connection; decoding still depends on the Mac and file. Check availability before an important session.
Match the file to the recipient’s device
Browser playback depends on codec support, hardware and connection speed. The macOS app supports camera-original formats on compatible Macs. Test the recipient’s setup rather than relying on a universal bitrate claim.
ProRes still can't stream in a browser, anywhere
No web browser decodes ProRes, here or on any platform. For a link someone opens on the web, stream an HEVC export beside the master and keep the master for the app and for download: the macOS app plays it natively, up to 8K 4:2:2 HQ at 60 fps.
Questions worth asking.
Why can Vimeo playback look different from my export?+
Vimeo transcodes uploads into playback renditions for different devices and connections. That extra encoding can alter fine grain, gradients and motion depending on the source and rendition. Uncompressed.io serves your uploaded export without another platform re-encode; codec, device, display and connection still affect the viewing experience.
Is there a bandwidth or viewer cap on uncompressed.io?+
There are no per-view charges. Your plan sets storage and included team seats. Vimeo’s self-serve pricing lists 2 TB of monthly bandwidth and describes contacting customers who exceed it about usage or plan needs. Check actual delivered bytes: an uploaded file’s size is not the amount transferred by every view.
Does Vimeo import copy my original?+
Only when Vimeo retained the source and your account can access it. A paid plan alone is not enough: Vimeo’s source-retention setting also matters, and enabling it cannot restore a removed original. Test one import first; upload your export if only an encoded rendition is available.
When should I cancel Vimeo?+
After verifying your copies and replacing the links and embeds you need. Vimeo warns that ending paid membership can affect retained source files. A downgrade does not guarantee every video or link remains available under the same terms, so check your account before changing it.
Can I download my files from uncompressed.io?+
You retain access to the uploaded originals in your account, subject to the applicable access and storage state. Use original-file downloads and the documented API to export your library. Keep an independent copy of important projects.
