Where the meter sits
MASV bills the download,
not the upload.
This is the single fact that decides whether MASV is cheap or expensive for your work. MASV’s help centre lists three billable events: downloading files from MASV, sending files from MASV to integrations, and storing files in MASV after the free days included with your plan. Pushing a package up is not one of them.

A courier that bills movement is priced correctly for movement. The trouble is that client delivery is rarely one movement. The producer opens the cut, the colourist pulls the same file to check a reference, the agency asks for it again a week later because the link is buried in a thread, and the master goes out a second time when the edit changes. On a metered plan each of those is a separate charge for the same bytes.
The subscription tiers do not change the shape of the model, only the unit price. MASV publishes five of them, and publishes the effective per-gigabyte rate for each, so the gigabyte remains the unit of account at every level. Pre-buy credits work the same way: 5 TB for $1,229, 10 TB for $2,355 and 25 TB for $5,632, applied instantly and valid for 180 days. You are still buying gigabytes, and the unused ones have a shelf life.

The arithmetic
The same file is billed
every time someone pulls it.
One 30 GB master, one calendar month, and nothing else on the account. The only variable is how many times that master is downloaded. MASV’s 15 GB of free monthly transfer is applied once, to the account, before anything is billed.

The left column climbs because the meter counts events. The right column does not move because the meter counts shelf space, and the shelf holds one 30 GB file whether it is watched once or fifty times. Our Terms put it in one sentence: storage is the only meter, and there are no bandwidth caps. The pricing page repeats the same two commitments as no bandwidth caps and no per-view charge.
There is a second charge on the metered side that is easy to miss when comparing headline rates. Every MASV upload includes free storage days, and 5 days is the published minimum. After that, the package expires and is deleted, or you pay extended storage. MASV publishes that rate as $0.07 USD per GB per month, and gives its own worked examples: 1 GB kept for 30 days costs $0.06, 10 GB costs $0.58 and 100 GB costs $5.83.
Expiry is not reversible. MASV states that packages are deleted from the MASV Cloud on the default or custom expiry date, and that once removed it is unable to retrieve them. The default expiry is not a fixed number of days for everyone: MASV sets it to match the number of free storage days included in your plan, and says the number of free days varies according to the plan you hold.
The honest number
The break-even is a real number.
Below it, MASV is cheaper.
A flat plan only wins once the repeat delivery is real. Divide our monthly price by MASV’s $0.25 per GB, add back MASV’s 15 GB of free monthly transfer, and you get the exact volume at which the two models cost the same.

When MASV is the right answer, and it often is
MASV is a purpose-built courier and it is genuinely better at being one. If you have a single large package to hand to someone who will never need it again, paying for that one trip is both cheaper and simpler than carrying a subscription. There is no plan to hold between jobs, no storage to manage, and no account for the recipient. On a difficult connection, a tool designed around getting one large package across is the tool you want, and it does not care how large the package is: MASV markets no limit on package sizes and says you can send packages of any size without compression, file splitting or workarounds.
The break-even above is the whole argument, in both directions. A month with 40 GB of downloads costs $6.25 on MASV pay-as-you-go and $9 on our cheapest paid plan. MASV wins that month, and it will keep winning every month like it. Our uploader also stops at 50 GB per file, so a camera-original haul above that ceiling is not a job we can take at all. Hire the courier for the one-way trip. Rent the shelf for the deliveries you are going to make again.
The other model
Storage is the only meter.
Delivery is not a line item.
In a flat model the question stops being how often the file moved and becomes how much of it you are keeping. That is a number you already know when the project starts, which is the practical difference: the invoice is predictable before the client behaves unpredictably.
What the client actually receives
A stream of the exact bytes
There is no encode step here, at upload or at playback. The player is handed the stored object, so what a viewer watches is what you exported.
The byte-identical original
Turn on downloads for a single film and the viewer gets the same stored object with an attachment header. No conversion, no repackage. Leave it off and no download link is ever generated.
A link that does not meter
The Terms state that storage is the only meter and that there are no bandwidth caps. The pricing page states no bandwidth caps and no per-view charge.
A 50 GB ceiling per file
The uploader stops at 50 GB for a single file, in the browser, before a byte moves. That is the real limit to weigh against a courier that markets no package-size limit.

One number is worth stating plainly, because a flat plan is not a promise of infinite room. Each plan is defined by its storage cap: 100 GB on Lite, 500 GB on Pro, 1.5 TB of hot storage plus 1 TB of cold on Max, and 2 TB hot plus 2 TB cold on Studio. What is not metered is the delivery. If the shelf fills, you add a block at $40 per TB of hot storage or $20 per TB of cold storage a month, and the bill still does not respond to how many people watched.

How much does MASV cost per gigabyte?

At what point does a flat plan cost less than MASV pay-as-you-go?
At 51 GB of downloads in a month against our $9 Lite plan, and at 115 GB against our $25 Pro plan. Both figures allow for MASV's 15 GB of free monthly transfer. Below those volumes, MASV pay-as-you-go is the cheaper answer and carries no subscription at all.
Does a client re-downloading the master cost anything here?
No. Our Terms state that storage is the only meter and that there are no bandwidth caps, and the pricing page carries the same two lines: no bandwidth caps, no per-view charge. A second, third or tenth pull of the same master does not change the invoice.
What happens to a MASV package once the free days run out?
It expires and is deleted. MASV sets the default expiry date to match the number of free storage days included in your plan, and states that once files are removed from the MASV Cloud it is unable to retrieve them. Keeping a package longer is billed as extended storage at $0.07 USD per GB per month.
Is there a file size limit on your side?
Yes, and it is the honest weakness of this comparison. Our uploader stops at 50 GB per file, while MASV markets no limit on package sizes and says you can send packages of any size without compression, splitting or workarounds. A camera-original haul above that ceiling is a MASV job.
When should I keep using MASV?
When the delivery is a one-off. A single large package going to someone who will never need it again, especially over a difficult connection, is exactly what MASV is built for. You pay for the one trip, there is no subscription to carry, and at low monthly volume the per-gigabyte bill lands under any flat plan on this page.
Move the file once, deliver it as often as you like
Storage is the only meter here. Upload the master, share the link, and let the client stream it and pull the original as many times as the project needs without the bill changing.
