Alternatives
Vimeo Showcase alternative for portfolio pages.
No platform mark on any plan, and the bitrate you exported.
A Showcase is a curated collection page inside Vimeo, and it does that job well. Two things it cannot do are carry no platform mark on the cheapest tier and hand a viewer the file you exported. Here is the comparison with the real numbers, including the rows where Vimeo is the better answer.
Video hosting for filmmakers · 5 GB free · Paid plans from USD 9/month
Updated September 2026
Start with what you are replacing
A Showcase is a collection,
not a website.
Vimeo defines a showcase as a way to organise videos together to share publicly or privately. It is a feature of the plan you already hold, not a separate purchase. Free and Basic accounts get up to three of them; Starter and every tier above get unlimited showcases. Every plan can embed a showcase as a playlist from the Share button.
That is a genuinely useful object, and if you only need a grouped playlist inside Vimeo you do not need an alternative. The reason people search for one is what sits around the films: the mark on the player, the address the page answers on, and the bitrate the viewer actually receives. Those three are where a showcase and a portfolio page part company.
Before anything else, one correction that most comparison pages skip. Vimeo has a better answer than Showcases for a portfolio site, and it is called Portfolios. Vimeo documents them as customisable websites for showing your videos, available on a Standard or higher or a Pro or higher membership, with a custom domain for Pro members and higher, and with pages that can be built without any Vimeo branding. If a domain you own is the requirement, that is the product to look at, and this page will not pretend otherwise.

The clearest difference
The player carries nothing of ours,
on the free plan too.
This is the row we win outright, so it is worth stating precisely rather than loudly. Vimeo has two separate branding gates, one tier apart, and they are frequently conflated.
Hiding the Vimeo logo is a player parameter called vimeo_logo. Vimeo documents it as defaulting to true and requiring a Starter plan or higher. The controls parameter, which hides the playbar and sharing buttons, carries the same Starter requirement. Uploading and displaying your own logo is a different feature with a different gate: Vimeo requires a Standard, Advanced, Pro, Business, Premium or Enterprise plan for it, and states the logo appears only on videos embedded on another website, in the lower right corner. Free and Basic embeds can change player size, embed privacy and playback settings such as autoplay, mute and loop, and nothing else.
Here the player renders no wordmark, no badge and no watermark, on any plan including the free one, and there is no tier check anywhere in that path. Turn on the custom logo and your own file sits bare on the frame with no box around it. The accent colour paints the progress bar and the background colour paints the frame around the video. Title, view count and share button are off unless you switch them on. The single place our name appears inside an embed is the fallback card shown when a film is unavailable, which is an error state rather than playback.
What we do not claim
The substance of the comparison
Vimeo re-encodes every upload;
we send the file you exported.
Vimeo states that an uploaded file is re-encoded into several formats for viewing. Its playback guidelines then publish exactly what those formats deliver. Its compression guidelines publish what it wants you to upload. The gap between those two documents is the honest case for moving a portfolio page.

Vimeo figures from its playback-resolution guidelines and its compression guidelines, both fetched 7 September 2026. Vimeo notes that the delivered figures are maximums and that a video may transcode lower depending on the complexity of the image, so 22 Mbps at 4K is a ceiling rather than a promise. Our 50 GB per-file figure is the ceiling checked in the browser at upload; the tighter real limit is the storage left on your plan, which on the free plan is 5 GB.
Read the fourth row against the first. Vimeo asks a filmmaker to upload 4K at up to 60 Mbps and then documents a delivered maximum of 22 Mbps. That is not a criticism of Vimeo, which is running a general-purpose platform and paying for every gigabyte it sends. It is simply the wrong trade for a portfolio page whose entire job is to make one film look the way it looked in the grade.
Our side of that trade has a cost and it belongs on the same page. Because we never make a second, smaller version of your film, there is nothing for the player to switch to when a viewer’s connection thins out. It buffers and waits. Vimeo’s ladder handles that case better and always will. What you get in exchange is that a client on an office line sees the export you made, not a re-encode of it.
The other model difference
One platform meters storage,
the other meters views.
Vimeo publishes a single monthly bandwidth threshold of 2 TB, measured as 2,000 GB, and it applies to every self-serve plan rather than scaling by tier. Our terms meter storage only and set no bandwidth cap, so a film that gets picked up costs nothing extra to serve.

Vimeo storage, seat and bandwidth figures from its plan articles and its bandwidth article, fetched 7 September 2026. Vimeo's Starter storage figure applies to accounts created on or after 17 June 2024; accounts created before that date and kept on a paid subscription are on a legacy video-count cap instead. Our plan figures from the pricing page, fetched the same day. No Vimeo price appears on this page: its canonical pricing page did not render prices to verification today, and an unverified price does not go on a comparison.
The bandwidth process is worth reading rather than fearing. Vimeo sends automated notifications when the 2 TB threshold is passed. Direct contact follows if an account exceeds 2 TB at least twice in twelve months, or exceeds 10 TB once in twelve months. From there the account has a seven-day window to reach a resolution, and without one it is at risk of temporary suspension, which means the videos stop playing wherever they are embedded. Vimeo also publishes exemptions, effective 18 April 2022, for creative professionals whose viewership is not majority commercial, for nonprofits under a million dollars of annual budget, and for users of certain hosting integrations.
For most portfolio pages that threshold will never be touched. It matters for the filmmaker whose reel gets shared widely, and for anyone who embeds a high-bitrate film in a page that loads it repeatedly. The relevant point is structural: on one platform the success of a film is a cost, and on the other it is not.
What replaces the Showcase
You tag films;
the page lays itself out.
There is no canvas and no grid editor here, deliberately. Each film carries one layout tag and the page assembles from those tags, which is the difference between building a website and publishing a portfolio.
Pick a username, and the page exists
A username is required at signup, and it becomes uncompressed.io/yourname with yourname.uncompressed.io provisioned alongside it. There is no publish switch and no opt-in. Visitors need no account and no sign-in to watch.
Upload the export, not the master
The player streams the exact bytes you upload, so the file to put here is the high-bitrate browser-compatible export. Nothing is re-encoded on the way in or on the way out.
Tag each film Hero, Featured or Standard
Hero runs full width, Featured pairs two halves side by side, and Standard runs three across. A lone Featured film renders centred at half width. Hidden is the fourth tag and the default for a new upload, so a new profile is empty until you place films.
Drag the rows into the order you want
Order is set by dragging rows in the Public Profile tab and it persists. Set a film to Public visibility and give it a tag, and it appears; both steps are deliberate.
Each film also gets its own page at uncompressed.io/yourname/the-film, generated from the title, editable in the Share panel, and answering at yourname.uncompressed.io/the-film as well. Renaming retires the old address, since there is no redirect and no slug history, so update any link you have already sent. Vimeo has the mirror-image constraint from the other direction: custom URLs of the form vimeo.com/username/thecustompart require a paid membership, and Vimeo states that custom video URLs cannot be embedded at all.
Where the answer is Vimeo
This is a comparison, so here are
four reasons to stay.
A comparison page that finds no reason to choose the competitor is an advertisement. These four are real, and any one of them on its own is enough.
You need a domain you own
We do not have custom domains, in any form, and there is no version of the product where the page is not on uncompressed.io. Vimeo hosts a showcase on your domain from Standard or higher, and hosts a Portfolio on your domain for Pro members or higher, with pages that can carry no Vimeo branding at all.
You want an audience, not just a page
Vimeo is a destination with viewers on it, plus channels and groups. A portfolio page here is a page: it is found because you sent the link or because your own site links to it. If discovery inside a video community is part of what you are buying, that is not what this is.
Your team needs seats
Vimeo includes five seats on Standard and ten on Advanced, and documents adding up to 200 team members. Here a plan is one account, with extra seats available only as a Vault option. A production company that needs shared access across a dozen people should count seats before anything else.
Your viewers are on weak connections
Vimeo re-encodes into several formats and steps down when the line gets thin. We hold one file and buffer instead. If your work is watched on mobile data, in the field or in markets where bandwidth is scarce, that difference will cost you more than a platform logo ever will.
One more fair point
If none of those four apply, the case for moving is short. Your portfolio page carries no mark that is not yours, on the free plan and on every plan above it. The film a client opens is the file you exported, at the bitrate you exported it, with no ladder in the middle deciding what they deserve. And the page costs the same whether four people watch it or four thousand, because storage is the only thing being metered.
The practical next step is small. Sign up, take one finished film, export it at a high bitrate in a browser-friendly codec, upload it, tag it Hero, and send the link to someone whose eye you trust. If the picture is visibly better than the same film on your existing showcase, the rest of the argument answers itself. If you would rather read first, the migration guide covers moving a library across, and the portfolio hosting guide covers the wider field.
Questions
Frequently asked
Can I embed a Vimeo Showcase on my own site?
Yes. Vimeo's help centre states that every plan can embed a showcase as a playlist, using the embed code under the showcase's Share button. What is gated is hosting the showcase on a domain you own: that requires a Standard, Advanced, Pro, Business, Premium or Enterprise plan, set up as a CNAME for a subdomain or an A record for a root domain, with up to 72 hours for the change to take effect.
Does uncompressed.io support a custom domain?
No, and this is the row where we lose. Your page is uncompressed.io/yourname and yourname.uncompressed.io, both provisioned at signup, and embeds are served from uncompressed.io. If a domain you own is a requirement, Vimeo Portfolios is the honest answer: Vimeo documents Portfolios as customisable websites available on Standard or higher, or Pro or higher, with a custom domain for Pro members or higher and pages that can be built without any Vimeo branding.
Do I have to pay to take your logo off the player?
There is no logo to take off. The player and the embed carry no wordmark, no badge and no watermark on any plan, free included, and there is no tier check anywhere in that path. On Vimeo the vimeo_logo player parameter requires a Starter plan or higher, and uploading and displaying your own logo requires a Standard, Advanced, Pro, Business, Premium or Enterprise plan. Those are two different gates, one tier apart.
What happens on a viewer's weak connection?
Our player buffers. There is one file and no rendition ladder, so there is no smaller version to fall back to. Vimeo re-encodes every upload into several formats, which is exactly what a viewer on a thin line wants. If your audience watches on mobile data more than on an office line, that trade goes Vimeo's way and you should weigh it before moving.
Can I keep a readable URL for each film?
Here the address starts from the film's title, uncompressed.io/yourname/the-film, and you can rewrite the tail in the Share panel; it saves as you type, it must be unique inside your own account, and changing it retires the old address because there is no redirect. On Vimeo a custom URL takes the form vimeo.com/username/thecustompart, requires a paid membership, and Vimeo states plainly that custom video URLs cannot be embedded.
How many Showcases does Vimeo give me, and what does that cost?
A showcase is a feature of the plan you already hold, not a separate purchase. Vimeo's feature-access article gives Free and Basic up to three showcases and gives Starter, Plus, Standard, Pro, Business, Premium and Enterprise unlimited showcases. The Free plan article repeats the free allowance as three showcases, one channel and one group, on 1 GB of storage for the account's lifetime.
Will either platform train AI models on my films?
Our terms carry a clause that files are never sold and never used to train AI, with a 30-day notice rule on changes. Vimeo publishes its own position and it deserves to be quoted accurately: it states it will not allow generative AI models to be trained using videos hosted on its platform without your explicit consent, including on its free offerings. That is a consent-gated commitment rather than an absolute prohibition, and it is not a reason to leave Vimeo.
Put the export itself on the page
Starter is free with 5 GB and one film at a time. Lite is $9 a month or $90 a year with 100 GB. Pro is $25 or $250 with 500 GB. Max is $75 or $750 with 1.5 TB hot plus 1 TB cold. Vault is $250 or $2,500 with 2 TB of each. The player carries nothing of ours on any of them.
