Alternatives

Mux alternative for creators.
A finished streaming service instead of an API.

Mux is a well-made video API for developers. It encodes, stores and delivers video, and a team of engineers builds the product around it. If you are a filmmaker or creator who wants to sell films and memberships this week, with no code, you need the product, not the parts.

Short answer

What is a good Mux alternative for creators who do not write code?

A finished streaming platform rather than a video API. Mux, which calls itself video for developers, gives engineers encoding, storage, delivery and a player, and leaves the storefront, accounts and billing to be built. uncompressed.io includes all of that from a dashboard, with 0% commission on what you sell.

  • A shop, player and checkout that already exist
  • Purchases, rentals and memberships, 0% commission
  • Buyers pay into your own payment account
  • Films stream as exported, with no re-encode
  • Optional Leak Shield, USD 99 a month or USD 1,188 a year
  • No developer, no API keys, no servers

What Mux is

Parts, not a product
and what it leaves to you

Mux is infrastructure. Its home page headline is "Video for developers", and it offers APIs and SDKs in several programming languages, an embeddable player, video analytics and live streaming.

That is a strength. Teams that build their own apps get a fast, well-documented pipeline and pay only for what they use. But a creator selling a film needs more than a pipeline: a page that lists the films, a checkout, a way to give each buyer access, membership tiers, receipts, refunds, a player that checks who paid, and a dashboard to see sales. With Mux, each of those is a project. Mux's pricing page, read 12 October 2026, describes the video service, Mux Player and its SDKs; it does not mention a storefront, paywall or subscription billing for viewers.

What Mux gives you

Encoding, storage and delivery of video, live streaming, a player, analytics and AI workflows, all through an API.

What you still build

The website or app, sign-in for buyers, payment and subscription logic, access rules, receipts, refunds and a sales dashboard.

Who usually builds it

A developer or an agency. The cost of that work, and its upkeep, is the real price of a do-it-yourself platform.

The numbers

Mux prices by the minute. At small volumes the bill can be very low, which is why developers like it.

Mux also lists a Launch plan at USD 20 a month for USD 100 of usage credit, and Scale at USD 500 a month for USD 1,000. Pay as you go has no platform or per-seat fee and a USD 20 monthly usage credit. Mux states these are first-tier "starting-at" rates that can change; 2K, 4K and premium quality cost more. The infrastructure bill is rarely the large number. The build is. On uncompressed.io the comparable line is a flat plan, from Lite at USD 9 a month, with the shop already built.

Getting started

From upload to first sale
without a developer

1

Upload your films

Upload the export you graded. It is stored and streamed as exported.

2

Connect your payment account

Every charge is made on your own payment account; the money never passes through us.

3

Set prices and tiers

Purchase, rental and download prices per film, and membership tiers that open whole collections.

4

Share the shop

Send people to yourname.uncompressed.io/on-demand, or point your own domain at it.

Viewing hours for your buyers are included every month (Lite 1,000, Pro 5,000, Max 15,000, Studio 25,000). Above that, playback never pauses and an extra block is added. If you later want apps on TVs, branded apps for Apple TV, iPhone, Fire TV, Samsung and LG are built and submitted under your own developer accounts (the stores' own developer fees apply).
