A Vimeo Review alternative,
measured against the 2026 version.

In April 2026 Vimeo removed the account requirement from review links and put a timestamp on every comment. That closes two old complaints. Here is what Vimeo documents today, what its help centre does not describe, and the four places our review room works differently.

Credit where it is due

Vimeo Review changed in April 2026,
and it is a better tool for it.

On 22 April 2026 Vimeo announced a simplified Review with two changes that matter to anyone sending cuts to clients: a reviewer no longer needs a Vimeo account to open or comment on a review link, and every comment on a review link now carries a timestamp.

Older comparison pages still say Vimeo makes clients sign up. That is out of date. The same is true of the idea that Vimeo has no versioning or approval: its help article on review links describes Version Management tools to replace the clip with a new edit, and a status option that lets reviewers mark a video as Approved. Vimeo also documents a Premiere Pro integration in which time-coded comments appear as markers in your timeline. On current plans, the Creator plan lists unlimited review links with custom expiration dates and a customizable appearance.

So the question is not whether Vimeo can run a review. It can. The question is whether the specific things below matter to your workflow.

Where we differ

Four differences we can state plainly,
and nothing more.

Drawings stay with the note

A reviewer can draw on the picture and the drawing is saved with that note, so the circle around the boom mic and the words 'lose this' arrive together. Vimeo's help centre does not describe drawing tools.

A verdict per version, with a name on it

Each version gets its own red or green verdict, recorded against that version and aspect under the name the reviewer gave. A new note on an approved version withdraws its approval, so a late change of mind cannot hide behind an old green.

Markers in Resolve, Premiere and Final Cut

A free script drops each note into DaVinci Resolve as a marker at the note's timecode, red for to do and green for done, and refreshes in place. A panel brings the notes into Premiere Pro, and Final Cut Pro takes a marker bundle you drag in. Vimeo documents the Premiere path only.

The client watches your export

Browser playback uses your uploaded export without another platform re-encode. Codec, device and connection requirements still apply. If you upload a high-bitrate HEVC export, that is the file the client plays, where their device and connection can handle it.

A few smaller things round out the room: notes are counted by revision round, you tick each note done as you apply it, and clients never take a team seat. The review room page shows the client view, and the NLE sync page has the install steps for each editor.

You cut in Premiere and nothing else

Vimeo already documents comments landing as Premiere markers. If that is your whole round trip, switching buys you less.

You need links that expire on a date

Vimeo's Creator plan lists custom expiration dates on review links. We do not offer a date-based expiry setting.

Vimeo is also your public channel

If your portfolio, showcases and audience live on Vimeo, running review in the same account is simpler than splitting tools.

Share it with your client

Share the film with your client by name or email and send the link. They open it without an account and leave notes and drawings.

Pull the notes into your timeline

Run the Resolve script, open the Premiere panel, or drag the Final Cut bundle, then mark notes done as you fix them.

Upload V2 and ask for a verdict

Add the new cut as the next version and ask for green on that version. Check the recorded version before you deliver.

Moving films off Vimeo

The Vimeo importer copies a film’s file into your library and labels it as the source file, a Vimeo re-encoded version, or a file whose source is unconfirmed. It never edits or deletes anything on Vimeo, and it does not bring comments, links or analytics across. Frequently asked

Does Vimeo Review still require reviewers to have an account?

No. Vimeo's post of 22 April 2026 says you no longer need an account to access or comment on a review link. Its older help article says guests give a name and an email before posting feedback; check the current flow on your own link.

Can clients draw on the picture in Vimeo Review?

Vimeo's help article on review links and its April 2026 announcement do not describe drawing or annotation tools. That is not proof the feature is absent; ask Vimeo or test it on your plan. In our review room, a drawing is saved with the note it belongs to.

Can Vimeo review comments go into DaVinci Resolve or Final Cut Pro?

Vimeo documents a Premiere Pro integration where timecoded comments appear as markers in the timeline. Its help centre does not describe a Resolve or Final Cut path. Our notes reach Resolve through a free script, Premiere through a panel, and Final Cut through a marker bundle you drag in.

Does each reviewer take a paid seat?

Not on uncompressed.io. Clients reach the room through a share link and are never counted as seats; seats are only for your own team.

If I move my films from Vimeo, do the review comments come with them?

No. The importer copies the video file only, and our import page says links, comments and analytics stay on Vimeo. Export or note anything you need from the old review thread before you close that account.

Is a green approval a signature?

No. It is a workflow record tied to a version and the name the reviewer gave. A typed name on a shared link is not verified identity. Agree who signs off, and how, outside the tool.
