The short answer
Two members, 2 GB,
two projects on Frame.io Free.
Frame.io’s free plan is a small shared workspace: room for two people inside the account, two projects, and 2 GB of storage, with 2 GB of Mounted Storage listed alongside it on the pricing page. Frame.io’s help article lists only the 2 GB of storage, so plan your uploads around that figure.

free, one film at a time, review room included
For video, the 2 GB is often the limit that arrives first: a single long master export can be larger than the whole free allowance. The two-member cap matters second: an editor and a producer fill it, and a third teammate inside the account means moving to a paid plan.
Our free Starter plan is shaped the other way round. It has 1 seat and holds one film at a time, but that film can use the full 5 GB, and the review room, per-version approvals and timecoded notes all come with it.

Which one to use
Each free tier suits a different job,
not a better or worse one.
Stay with Frame.io Free if you are a small team trying its workflow
Two people can work inside one account across two projects, and the free plan already includes Frame.io's apps and integrations. If you are testing whether Frame.io fits the way your team edits before paying for Pro, the free plan is built for that test, and nothing on this page is a reason to skip it.
Use our free Starter plan to send one film to one client
One person, one film, up to 5 GB. Your client opens a link with no account, leaves notes at a timecode, draws on the frame and approves the version. Browser playback uses your uploaded export without another platform re-encode. Codec, device and connection requirements still apply.
When Frame.io Free runs out first
Usually on storage, when a single long export will not fit in 2 GB, or on members, when a third person needs to be inside the account. The first is a file-size problem; the second is a team problem, and Frame.io's Pro and Team plans are priced per member.
When our Starter plan runs out first
On films. It holds one film at a time, so a second project means deleting the first or moving to Lite. If you need two people inside the account for free, Frame.io Free is the better fit.
Free, start to finish
One client review,
on the free Starter plan.
Upload the export
Upload the cut your client should judge, up to 5 GB on the free plan. It plays as you exported it, within what the viewer's browser and device can decode.
Share it with the client
Create a share link for the client by name. The link is their access; they do not create an account.
Collect notes and a verdict
The client leaves notes at a timecode, can draw on the frame, and marks the version approved or needing changes. A new note on an approved version revokes that approval.
Bring the notes into your edit
Pull the notes into DaVinci Resolve, Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro as markers at each note's timecode. Replace the file for the next cut; the link, notes and approvals stay.

Questions
Frequently asked
What are the Frame.io free plan limits, exactly?
Frame.io's pricing page lists the Free plan at $0 with up to 2 members, up to 2 projects, 2 GB of storage and 2 GB of Mounted Storage. Frame.io's help article on its plans lists the same member and project caps and 2 GB of storage, without the Mounted Storage line. It also lists comments and annotation, free shares, apps and integrations, version management, 1080p HD playback and essential security on Free.
Does my client need a Frame.io account to review on the free plan?
Frame.io says share links let you share with people outside your account without requiring them to sign up or log in. A reviewer who is not logged in is asked for a name and email address on their first comment, and cannot edit those comments after leaving the session.
Does my client need an account on uncompressed.io?
No. On a per-client share link, possession of the link is the reviewer's key. Clients on share links are not seats, on the free plan or any other.
What do I do when I need a second film on the free Starter plan?
The free plan holds one film at a time. Delete the first film to upload another, or move to Lite at $9 a month or $90 a year for 100 GB hot plus 100 GB cold. If you only need a new cut of the same film, replacing the file keeps the link and keeps the timecoded notes and approvals.
What is the next step up on Frame.io?
Pro, at $15 per member per month, with up to 5 members, unlimited projects, 2 TB of storage plus 2 TB per added member, and 250 GB of Mounted Storage. Pro adds custom-branded shares, passphrase-protected shares, share-link expiration and share permissions. The pricing page shows annual billing only as 'Save 13%', with no annual per-member price.
Send one film to one client, free
The review room is on the free Starter plan: 5 GB, one film at a time. Your client opens a link, leaves timecoded notes and approves the version, with no account to create.
