The FX3 records XAVC to the card: HEVC in XAVC HS, H.264 in XAVC S, Intra in XAVC S-I, mostly 10-bit, often 4:2:2, often S-Log3. None of that is what a client should open. Here is what the camera writes, what a browser can do with it, and the graded HEVC export to send instead.

What the FX3 records
Three XAVC families,
Intra and Long GOP.
Everything the FX3 writes to its card is XAVC. Sony’s specifications list XAVC HS as HEVC/H.265 and XAVC S as AVC/H.264. The XAVC S-I modes use Intra compression, which Sony describes as compressing by frame; the others are Long GOP. Behind them sits a 35 mm full-frame CMOS sensor of about 12.1 effective megapixels.

Two recording decisions matter for the grade. Sony says Intra compression has better response and flexibility when editing, while Long GOP has better compression efficiency, and every S-I mode is 10-bit 4:2:2, so S-I is the cleanest master to cut and grade from when your card space allows it. XAVC HS is Sony’s HEVC option: in Sony’s words, higher image quality than XAVC S at the same data volume. The catch is frame rate. 4K 119.88p exists only in Long GOP, as XAVC HS or XAVC S at 280M 4:2:2 or 200M 4:2:0; there is no S-I row for it.
The FX3 can also send RAW over HDMI at 60p, 50p, 30p, 25p or 24p, but only to a RAW-compatible external recorder. Sony is explicit that RAW movies cannot be recorded on the camera’s own card, and that the gamma is locked to S-Log3 during RAW output. What the recorder writes is a question for the recorder, not the camera.
Where each file plays
Some FX3 files decode in a browser,
but none of them is the review file.
Decoding and looking right are two different tests. An FX3 original can pass the first on one device, fail it on the next, and fail the second almost everywhere.
In a browser: it depends
XAVC HS is HEVC and XAVC S is H.264 in Sony's specifications, and both codecs are on the browser list. The 10-bit 4:2:2 flavours, which include every S-I mode, only play where the viewer's device decodes that profile. For a client you have never met, that is a guess.
In the macOS app: no
The macOS app plays R3D, BRAW, N-RAW and ProRes up to 8K 4:2:2 HQ at 60 fps. XAVC is not on that list, so no FX3 original is a camera file the app is documented to play.
As the client should see it: no
Even a file that decodes is shown as encoded. S-Log3 looks flat and grey without its grade, and a 600 Mbps Intra clip is many times the data rate a review link needs.
Supported camera originals and Vault playback use the compatible macOS app; they are not universally playable in web browsers. For the FX3 that sentence settles the question: the originals stay in your edit, and the client gets an export. The profile detail behind the browser column is on HEVC 10-bit 4:2:2 in the browser, and what 4:2:2 buys you over 4:2:0 is in the chroma subsampling answer.
If a colorist needs the originals, upload them as files: any file up to 5 TB, resumable, with no codec allowlist. Downloads of the original stay off until you switch them on for that video.
The export

H.265 Main10 (10-bit), MP4 or MOV, constant frame rate, 2-pass VBR, AAC audio at 320 kbps. The only number that changes is the video bitrate, and it follows your timeline, not the camera setting.
uncompressed.io recommended review export. The review export follows the timeline rate: slow motion conformed from 119.88p exports at 23.98 or 29.97, not at 120.
Grade before you export. The FX3’s Picture Profiles include S-Cinetone, S-Log2, S-Log3 and HLG, with PP8 set to S-Log3 and S-Gamut3.Cine. If you shot S-Log3, apply your grade or a transform to Rec.709 in the timeline; a browser shows the file exactly as encoded and will not add the look for you. If you shot in Cine EI or Cine EI Quick, the recording ISO was locked to base ISO 800 or 12800 whatever you monitored at, so settle exposure in the grade too.
If you want one number, 80 Mbps HEVC 10-bit covers 1080p through 4K. Calm frames such as interviews sit comfortably at 40 to 50; busy frames with rain, foliage, water, heavy grain or fast pans want 100 to 120, so give high-ISO night footage the upper end. Bring S-Log3 to the look the client is approving, and conform 119.88p material to the timeline rate.
Export HEVC Main10
Use the bitrate row for your timeline. Constant frame rate, 2-pass VBR, AAC 320 kbps, MP4 or MOV.
Upload the export
Uploads are resumable. Browser playback uses your uploaded export without another platform re-encode.
Share one link
The link is the access; the client needs no account. Add a password per video if you want one.
Pull notes into the NLE
Comments carry author and timecode with red or green status. They come back as markers through a Resolve script, a Premiere Pro panel or a Final Cut Pro bundle.
When the next cut is ready, replace the file: the link, views, settings, notes and approvals stay where they were. Each film plays from one file with no lower-quality rendition, so a slow connection buffers rather than dropping resolution. Codec, device and connection requirements still apply, and no device is promised identical colour or smooth playback.

Frequently asked
Can a client play FX3 files straight off the card in a browser?
Sometimes, and you cannot plan on it. Sony's specifications list XAVC HS as HEVC/H.265 and XAVC S as AVC/H.264, both on the browser codec list, but the 10-bit 4:2:2 modes (every XAVC S-I mode among them) only play where the viewer's device decodes that profile. Even when a file decodes, S-Log3 footage looks flat because a browser shows the file as encoded, and a 600 Mbps XAVC S-I clip is far heavier than a review link needs. Send a graded HEVC export.
Does the uncompressed.io macOS app play FX3 originals?
No. The macOS app is documented to play RED R3D, Blackmagic BRAW, Nikon N-RAW and ProRes up to 8K 4:2:2 HQ at 60 fps. XAVC is not on that list. Supported camera originals and Vault playback use the compatible macOS app; they are not universally playable in web browsers. FX3 originals can still be uploaded as files (any file up to 5 TB) for a colorist to download once you switch downloads on for that video, but they are not a playback workflow in the app.
What should I export FX3 4K 120p slow motion at?
At the timeline rate. 4K 119.88p exists only in the Long GOP formats (XAVC HS and XAVC S at 280M 4:2:2 or 200M 4:2:0), and it is usually conformed to a 23.98 or 29.97 timeline for slow motion. Export at that timeline rate, so a 24 or 30 fps 4K timeline takes 40 to 80 Mbps in HEVC 10-bit.
Why can't I pick XAVC S-I at 4K 120p?
Sony's recording table for the FX3 has no 119.88p row for XAVC S-I 4K. The Intra modes top out at 59.94p (600 Mbps) and 50p (500 Mbps). For 4K 120p you record XAVC HS or XAVC S at 280M, both Long GOP.
Can I share FX3 RAW footage with a client?
The FX3 outputs RAW over HDMI to a RAW-compatible external recorder only; Sony states RAW movies cannot be recorded on the camera's card, and the gamma is locked to S-Log3 during RAW output. No RAW format plays in a web browser through uncompressed.io, and the macOS app does not play ProRes RAW. Grade the recorder files and send an HEVC export.
