Vimeo On Demand is shutting down.
What sellers should do before 20 November 2026.

Vimeo is closing its On Demand storefronts in four steps, with viewer access ending on 20 November 2026. Your videos stay in your Vimeo account, but what you can do with them depends on the plan behind them. Here are the dates, what Vimeo says happens to sellers and buyers, and how to get your masters, trailers and screeners out.

Your files

The videos stay put,
the plan behind them decides the rest.

Vimeo’s seller FAQ says the videos behind your titles remain in your Vimeo account under your plan’s storage terms once the storefronts close. The risk comes later, if the account’s paid plan ends.

Vimeo’s help centre is specific about that. After a lapse to Free, restricted videos “cannot be played, edited, or downloaded”. Source files are kept only on a paid plan with the Keep source video files setting on, and if the subscription ends, Vimeo says they may be deleted and may not be recoverable. Turning the setting on now does not bring back files already removed. Vimeo also states that bulk downloading is not supported, so its own download tools take a large catalogue one title at a time.

If On Demand was the reason you paid for Vimeo, the sensible order is: get the masters out, check them, then decide whether to keep the plan.

If you want to keep selling

uncompressed.io does not sell films, run storefronts or take payments from viewers, and this page will not pretend otherwise. Vimeo’s seller FAQ points sellers to Vimeo OTT and says content and subscriber data will not be migrated automatically. Buyers and renters keep watching until 20 November 2026. After that, the shutdown notice says viewer access to On Demand content ends. Vimeo’s buyer help article says subscriptions stop renewing on 21 September 2026 and tells purchasers they can download videos to their devices.

That download only exists where you, the seller, enabled it on the title. If you did, send your buyers a short note with the end date and a reminder to download. If you did not, be plain with them that access ends on 20 November. The pages fetched for this guide do not describe refunds, so do not promise one on Vimeo’s behalf.

Check each file's label

If Vimeo exposes no downloadable file for a video, the import refuses it, and you use your own project master instead. Large files use a resumable path. Imports count against your storage.

Test, then decide on Vimeo

Play each import, compare it with your master, and only then let the Vimeo plan go. Links, comments and analytics stay on Vimeo and do not move.

An imported re-encode is still a re-encode: importing it cannot recover detail Vimeo already removed. Browser playback uses your uploaded export without another platform re-encode. Codec, device and connection requirements still apply.

Screeners for named people

Share a film with each festival programmer, distributor or press contact through their own client link, or password-protect it. A film can also be restricted to one reviewer's email address.

Trailers on your own site

Embed a public trailer on your film's website. The player shows no platform logo, and the embed takes eight URL parameters, from autoplay and loop to a transparent background. Password-protected films do not play in an embed.

Masters you are not streaming

Paid plans include archive space for files you only need to keep. Hot capacity is released after the archive copy is verified and the library change is saved. Archived films must be restored before streaming, embedding or review.

Is Vimeo itself shutting down?

No. The shutdown notice and the seller FAQ cover the On Demand product only. Vimeo's March 2026 outlook post talks about improving the core product, and its blog feed shows posts through 10 September 2026.

Will I still be paid for sales I already made?

Vimeo's shutdown page says all eligible revenue earned through On Demand will be paid out, with final seller payouts processed by 21 October 2026 under the Seller Addendum. The seller FAQ says you do not need to do anything to receive them, and that balances under the payout threshold will still be handled so sellers get paid.

What happens to my videos after 20 November?

According to Vimeo's seller FAQ, the underlying videos stay in your Vimeo account under your plan's storage terms, while the storefronts can no longer be reached. If that plan later lapses to Free, Vimeo says restricted videos cannot be played, edited or downloaded, and stored source files may be deleted.

Will Vimeo move my titles and subscribers to Vimeo OTT?

No. The seller FAQ says content and subscriber data will not be migrated automatically. Vimeo recommends Vimeo OTT as the alternative for sellers who want to keep selling.

Can I sell my film on uncompressed.io instead?
