Client Portal for Video Editors: Review, Versions and Delivery

Choose a short, non-confidential export and create a review link. Open it in a signed-out browser, then ask someone unfamiliar with the project to leave a note tied to a moment in the video. Check whether they can tell which version they are reviewing without asking you.

Then upload a revision and follow the original request through to a recorded response. A portal is useful when that sequence is understandable to both sides, not simply when the upload succeeds.

A view means the file was opened. A comment is a request or observation. Approval is a decision about a particular version. Do not interpret silence, a view count or a resolved note as client sign-off.

Use a brief beside the review link: “Please check interview names and music balance on V2. Picture changes are outside this round. Confirm approval on this version after checking the revision.” This is a suggested workflow, not an automatic scope-enforcement feature.

The public review workflow brings video playback and timecoded feedback together. Plans differ in storage, team seats and caption allowances; external reviewers do not need a paid team seat. Browser playback depends on the export codec, device and connection.

A review link is not a full business-management system. Keep contracts, payment collection and your accounting records in the tools you already use. Do not assume a download button setting provides copy prevention or that a forwarded link verifies its holder’s identity.

Record the approved version, the delivery filenames and the remaining exceptions. Keep the final export separately from the review platform, alongside your project files. Agree with the client how long online access is expected to remain available.
