Offline Video Review: Prepare the Film, Keep the Notes

Offline review has two separate requirements: the film must already be on the device, and new notes must survive without a connection. A cached thumbnail is not a downloaded film.

Prepare while you still have a connection

Sign in and load the exact film version you will review. Confirm that the application has finished preparing its local media before leaving the network. Seek near the beginning, middle and end to check that you are not relying on a partially downloaded file.

Keep enough disk space for the working files. If you choose an external cache drive, connect it before opening the film and keep it attached for the session. A cache is working storage, not a replacement for an independent backup.

Test the offline workflow before travel

Use a non-sensitive test project. Disconnect the network, open the prepared film, pause at a recognizable frame and write a note. Close and reopen the application to verify that the draft remains. Then reconnect and confirm that the note appears once on the correct version.

A queued note has not reached the client. Treat cached comment statuses as a snapshot: another reviewer may have changed them while you were disconnected. Resolve conflicts after reconnecting rather than assuming the offline view is current.

What Mac V2.0 adds

Mac V2.0 was submitted to Apple for review on September 20, 2026. Its new offline comment drafts and project PDF export are not yet advertised as available in the public App Store version. Check the release version before relying on either feature.

The submitted build saves comment drafts encrypted on the Mac before clearing the composer. It retains the request identifier when retrying a sync, and removes the local draft after acknowledgment. Previously loaded comments can be read from an encrypted snapshot and are marked as potentially out of date.

This is not offline approval or offline report generation. Confirming approvals and exporting a fresh project report require the server to respond. Drafts are device-local; they are not a synchronized cloud backup of your Mac.

When online review is the better choice

Stay online when several people need to resolve the same round together or when access has just changed. Ask for a compatible lighter review export when transferring the master is impractical. The original and review copy must be clearly labeled so feedback refers to the intended file.

Choosing a plan? Match it to your storage, team seats and caption needs. Compare current plans.

Test the handoff with your own cut

Check playback, client feedback and the selected version before moving an active project.
