Independent film
Sell your film online.
Festivals, aggregators or direct sale.
An independent film reaches paying viewers three ways: festivals, which build reputation but usually pay little; aggregators, which place the film on large stores in exchange for a share and control; and direct sale from your own page, where you keep the money and do the marketing. Most films use them in that order.

Uncompressed On Demand
Sell your films for $39 a month, 0% commission.
- Sell streaming, downloads, or both, at your own price per film.
- Buyers pay into your own payment account. We never touch the money and take nothing from any sale.
- Your own shop page at yourname.uncompressed.io/on-demand, with a free preview whose length you choose.
- Buyers need no account: they pay and the film opens from their receipt, on any device.
- Films play as you exported them, with 20,000 viewing hours a month included.
Three routes
What each route gives,
and what each costs you.
Aggregator terms vary by company and change often. Read the current agreement before you sign; no aggregator figures are quoted here because none could be verified on an official page today.
Sequencing
Run them in order,
so one route does not close another.
Festival run first
Keep the film private. Send screeners with a private link, not a public sale page.
Decide on exclusivity
If an aggregator or distributor asks for exclusive rights, direct sale may have to wait or stop. Get this in writing before you open a shop.
Open direct sale
A shop page, a preview, a streaming price and a download price. Announce it to everyone who saw the film at festivals.
Keep the list
Every direct buyer is an email you can write to for the next film. No store gives you that.
Pricing a film
Start from the audience,
and work backwards to the fee.
There is no official price for an independent film. Price it against what your audience already pays for similar work, then check what the platform keeps.
Offer two prices when you can: streaming at a lower price and a download at a higher one, since a download is the file for good. Test one price for a few weeks before changing it, and never judge a price on a single day of sales.
Then run the fee. On a $12 stream, a 10% + $0.50 store keeps $1.70; a store taking 10% of one-time purchases keeps $1.20. A flat $39 add-on costs less than the first from the 23rd sale in a month, and less than the second from the 33rd, before your own card processing fees.

Questions
Frequently asked
Will selling my film online hurt its festival chances?
It can. Many festivals set premiere or availability rules, and a film already on sale to the public may not qualify. Rules differ by festival, so read each festival's own regulations before you publish, and keep the film private until your festival run is settled.
Where do I sell a film that was on Vimeo On Demand?
Vimeo blocked new On Demand purchases on 21 September 2026 and shuts the platform down on 20 November 2026. Buyers keep access until then. Vimeo points sellers to Vimeo OTT; the other routes are a percentage store, a flat-fee store, or an aggregator, compared on this page and in the Vimeo On Demand alternatives guide.
Sell your film from your own page.
Uncompressed On Demand is an add-on, $39 a month, 20,000 viewing hours a month included, 0% of any sale. Buyers pay on your own payment account; your provider's card processing fees still apply.
