Short answer
What is the best platform for selling videos online?
The best platform is the one whose fee model matches your sales and that shows your film the way you exported it. For regular sellers of films and video, a flat-fee platform with 0% commission keeps the most money; uncompressed.io adds memberships, rentals and streaming without a re-encode. For occasional sales with no monthly cost, a percentage store such as Gumroad is the cheaper start.
- Judge on fee per sale, monthly cost and sales caps
- Check where the money lands and who handles tax
- Check whether the video is re-encoded
- Percentage fees suit low volume; flat fees win as you grow
- uncompressed.io: 0% commission, film streamed as exported
- Gumroad: no monthly fee, 10% plus USD 0.50 a sale

Five questions that decide it
before you compare logos
Most comparisons list features. The choice usually comes down to five plain questions about money, quality and control.
1. What does a sale cost?
A percentage per sale, a fixed amount per sale, a fee per subscriber, or nothing. Add them up at your real price and volume, not at the headline rate.
2. What does a quiet month cost?
A monthly plan costs the same in a month with no sales. A percentage store costs nothing then. Know which months you will have.
3. Where does the money land?
Either in your own payment account on every charge, or with the platform, which pays you out later. The second adds a delay and a dependency.
4. What do buyers actually see?
Many hosts re-encode uploads to a lower bitrate. For a graded film, the difference shows in grain, gradients and dark scenes.
5. What can you sell?
Purchases, rentals with a viewing window, downloads, bundles, series, memberships. A general store sells files; a video platform sells viewing.
6. What is the ceiling?
Some plans cap yearly sales and push you to a higher tier. Check the cap against a good year, not an average one.

Five platforms, published figures
read on 12 October 2026

Competitor figures from each platform's own pricing or help page, read 12 October 2026. Card processing applies on every platform and is left out. The streaming platform is included with every paid plan for members who switch it on before 31 December 2026, and stays included for them afterwards; after that date new activations add USD 39 a month.
The money
What each one keeps in a month
at 100 sales of a USD 15 film
Gross sales: USD 1,500. Platform charges only, before card processing.
USD 9
uncompressed.io
Lite plan, 0% commission
USD 29
Sellfy Starter
monthly plan, 0% fee, USD 10k yearly cap
USD 200
Gumroad or Vimeo OTT
10% + USD 0.50 on each sale
USD 199
Uscreen Starter
USD 49 plan + 10% of one-time sales
At this volume the gap is about USD 190 a month between a flat plan and a percentage. At five sales a month it reverses: Gumroad would take USD 10 and charge nothing in the empty months. If you are not sure you will sell regularly, start where a quiet month is free and move once the percentage passes the plan price.
A flat plan also has a ceiling worth knowing. On uncompressed.io, each plan includes viewing hours for buyers each month (Lite 1,000, Pro 5,000, Max 15,000, Studio 25,000); above that an extra block is billed and playback never pauses.
Who fits where
An honest match
and when to pick something else
Gumroad
Best for a first test, mixed digital products, and creators who want someone else to handle sales tax. The cost is a share of every sale and a bigger share through its marketplace.
Sellfy
A general store with a flat fee and no transaction fee, good for creators who sell files and video side by side. Plans carry yearly sales caps.
Uscreen and Vimeo OTT
Built for subscription video; Uscreen's plans list native livestreaming. Per-subscriber fees and percentages add up as you grow.
uncompressed.io
For filmmakers and creators who sell films, series and memberships and want the film shown as exported, the money in their own account and 0% commission. No marketplace, no courses, no live streaming.

Questions
Frequently asked
What is the best platform for selling videos online?
For a creator who sells films or video regularly and wants to keep the whole price, a flat-fee platform with 0% commission, such as uncompressed.io or Sellfy, costs least once sales pass a few dozen a month. For a first test with no monthly cost, Gumroad charges nothing until you sell, then 10% plus USD 0.50 per direct sale.
Which video selling platform takes the lowest fee?
On 12 October 2026, uncompressed.io and Sellfy both listed 0% transaction fees and charge a monthly plan instead. Gumroad listed 10% plus USD 0.50 per direct sale, Vimeo OTT 10% plus USD 0.50 per transaction, and Uscreen Starter 10% of one-time sales on top of USD 49 a month.
Is it better to pay a percentage or a monthly fee?
A percentage is cheaper while you sell very little, because you pay nothing when nothing sells. A flat fee wins as soon as the percentage on your monthly sales is larger than the plan price. At USD 15 a film, a 10% fee overtakes a USD 9 plan after six sales a month.
Can I sell videos and memberships on the same platform?
Yes, on platforms built for video. uncompressed.io sells purchases, rentals, downloads, bundles and monthly or yearly memberships from one shop. Gumroad and Sellfy are general digital stores; Uscreen and Vimeo OTT are built for video subscriptions.
Which platform handles sales tax for me?
Gumroad says it acts as merchant of record and handles tax obligations since 1 January 2025. On uncompressed.io each sale is made on your own payment account, so tax registration and filing stay with you; it does not collect tax for you.
When is uncompressed.io not the best choice?
When you sell ebooks, templates or presets alongside a few videos, a general digital store fits better. When you want a marketplace that brings you buyers, choose a store with discovery; uncompressed.io has none. And when you need quizzes and certificates, use a course platform.
Sell your first film without giving up a share.
Purchases, rentals, downloads, bundles and memberships come with every paid plan (Lite USD 9, Pro USD 39, Max USD 99, Studio USD 219 a month), with 0% commission. Buyers pay into your own payment account.
