Your own streaming service
Stream video on your own website.
Your domain, your shop, your viewers.
There are three ways to put films on a site you own: embed a player in your pages, link from your site to a hosted shop, or run the whole streaming service on your own domain. They differ in how much work they take, who your viewers think they are buying from, and who keeps the customer list.

Short answer
How do I stream video on my own website?
Use a hosted streaming platform and point a domain you own at it. You get a shop with a player, payments and access control at an address like watch.yourfilm.com, without building any of it. For free films and trailers, embedding a player in your existing pages is enough.
- Embed a player for free films and trailers
- Link your site to a hosted shop for paid films
- Or run the shop itself on your own domain
- A custom domain needs one DNS record at your registrar
- Buyers pay into your own payment account, 0% commission
- Films stream as exported, with no re-encode
Three ways
Putting films on your own site
and what each one gives you
A streaming website is more than a player. To sell, it also needs checkout, access rules and a way for a buyer to come back next week. The three options below cover those jobs in different amounts.

The middle and right columns are the same shop on uncompressed.io; only the address changes. The streaming platform is included with every paid plan for members who switch it on before 31 December 2026, and stays included for them afterwards; after that date new activations add USD 39 a month.
Custom domain
What a custom domain needs
before you start
A custom domain is an address you already own, pointed at the streaming platform so viewers never see another company's name in the address bar.
A domain you control
Bought at any registrar, with login access to its DNS settings. If an agency or a former webmaster holds it, get access first; this is the step that usually takes longest.
The right record
A CNAME record for a subdomain such as watch.yourfilm.com, or an A record for a root domain such as yourfilm.com. The dashboard shows the exact values to copy.
Proof of ownership
If the domain is already in use somewhere else, a TXT record proves it is yours. The dashboard checks every record and lists anything still missing.
DNS changes can take from a few minutes to a day or two to spread, depending on your registrar and the record's previous settings. Nothing on your existing website changes if you use a subdomain: your homepage stays where it is, and a Watch link in its menu leads to the shop.
Until the domain is ready, the shop already works at yourname.uncompressed.io/on-demand, so you can sell from day one and switch addresses later.

| Your storefront | A shop under your name at yourname.uncompressed.io/on-demand, or on your own domain. Buyers need no account. |

Build it yourself if
You have a developer, need a custom player inside a larger product, or must store the video on infrastructure you run. Then a video API is the right building block, and you write the checkout and access rules.
Use a hosted domain shop if
You are a filmmaker or creator who wants a site that sells films and memberships under your own name this week, keeps every buyer's email and takes no share of sales.
Some all-in-one OTT services keep TV apps and other features for their larger plans: Vimeo OTT, for example, lists its Starter plan as web-only, with TV apps on its Enterprise tier, according to its pricing page read on 12 October 2026. Compare what each plan includes before you count on a domain or apps.
Questions
Frequently asked
Can I stream video on my own website without YouTube?
Yes. You can embed a player from a video host that shows no outside branding, or put a complete streaming shop on your own domain. The second option also handles payments, accounts and access, which an embedded player alone does not.
What do I need to put a streaming shop on my own domain?
A domain you control and access to its DNS settings at your registrar. You add a CNAME record for a subdomain such as watch.yourfilm.com, or an A record for a root domain, plus a TXT record to prove ownership if the domain already points somewhere else. The dashboard checks the records and tells you what is still missing.
Should I use a subdomain or my main domain?
A subdomain such as watch.yourname.com is usually the better choice. Your existing website stays where it is, and the streaming shop lives next to it under the same name. Use the root domain only when the shop is the whole site.
Can I build my own video streaming website from scratch?
You can, but you then run storage, encoding or file delivery, a player, payments, access control, buyer accounts and refunds yourself. For one filmmaker that is months of work and ongoing maintenance. A hosted streaming platform on your own domain gives you the same address without the engineering.
Do viewers need an account to watch on my site?
Not on uncompressed.io. Buyers pay with their email and sign in later with that same email; there is no separate account to create.
Will my films look worse when streamed from my website?
That depends on the host. Most hosts re-encode uploads to lower bitrates. uncompressed.io stores and streams the file as exported, with no additional video or audio re-encode, so it looks the way you delivered it, given a supported codec and enough bandwidth.
