Choosing where to sell
Video on demand platforms, by business model.
TVOD, SVOD, AVOD, and what each one costs.
The best video on demand platform depends on how you charge: per film (TVOD), per month (SVOD) or through ads (AVOD). Pick the model first, then the platform. Below is each model and a list of platforms with prices read from their official pages on 25 September 2026.

The three models
How the money comes in.
TVOD: pay per film
A buyer pays once to stream or download a title. Works for a single feature, a documentary, a concert film. Revenue follows each release.
SVOD: subscription
Viewers pay monthly or yearly for a catalogue. Works once you publish often enough that people keep paying. Needs churn management and usually apps.
AVOD: ad-supported
Free to watch, paid by ads. Works at large audiences; income per view is small.

How to choose
Match the platform to the model.
Selling a few copies a year: a percentage model with no monthly fee (Gumroad) costs least. Selling steadily per film: a flat fee with 0% (Sellfy, or uncompressed.io if picture quality matters and you want the file streamed as exported) wins once volume passes the fee. Running a channel with a monthly price, TV apps or live events: Vimeo OTT or Uscreen. Building an audience first: AVOD on YouTube.

Questions
Frequently asked
What is the difference between TVOD, SVOD and AVOD?
TVOD (transactional) charges per film, to stream or download. SVOD (subscription) charges a recurring fee for a catalogue. AVOD (advertising) is free to watch and paid by ads.
What is the best video on demand platform for an independent film?
For one or a few films sold individually, a TVOD tool fits: compare a percentage model against a flat fee using your expected sales. For a growing catalogue with a monthly price, an SVOD platform such as Vimeo OTT or Uscreen fits better.
Selling films one at a time?
uncompressed.io On Demand is a $39 a month add-on, 0% of sales, money on your own payment account.
