Checklist

The Vimeo On Demand shutdown checklist.
Five steps before 20 November 2026.

Vimeo On Demand stops serving buyers on 20 November 2026. Uploads ended on 22 August, purchases on 21 September and the final payouts went out on 24 September, so the only work left is getting what is yours out and your buyers to wherever your films live next. Five steps, in the order that loses the least, whether you come here or not.

The five steps

Before 20 November,
whatever you decide.

The order matters. The first two steps get what is yours off Vimeo while Vimeo still lets you; the last three reopen the shop somewhere buyers can find it before their access ends. The dates come from Vimeo’s shutdown notice, read 28 September 2026; the exact list of what changes on each date is on when does Vimeo On Demand shut down.

1

Export your buyers and your sales

From your Vimeo On Demand page, export the opted-in buyer CSV and your sales data. After the shutdown there is nothing left to export.

2

Download your originals

From your Vimeo library, download every source file you still have there. Check that it is the original, not a re-encoded version.

3

Re-host

Put the films where they will sell next. Test playback and download before you announce anything.

4

Re-grant prior buyers

They paid once. Make sure the film follows them, by a free link or whatever rule you choose.

5

Set your prices

Streaming, download, or both, per film. Decide before you announce the new address.

Step 1

Export your buyers and your sales,
while Vimeo still offers it.

Vimeo’s seller FAQ (read 25 September 2026) says the Audience tab on your On Demand page exports, as a CSV, the viewers who opted in to receive updates from your page, and that full buyer lists are not provided for privacy reasons. That CSV is the only contact list you will get from Vimeo, and it is the list that step four runs on. Export your sales data at the same time: after the shutdown you will want it for your own books, and the page it lives on will be gone.

Keep two copies of both files. Nothing else in this checklist can be done if step one is missed.

Step 2

Download every master,
and check that they are originals.

Vimeo’s help center (read 25 September 2026) says downloading from your library requires a paid plan, that there is no bulk download, and that source files are kept only on paid plans where the setting to store them was on at upload. Take the source file where it is listed; otherwise the highest version offered, and label it as a Vimeo-converted copy so you never mistake it for the master later.

A source file is the size and bitrate you exported; a Vimeo-converted copy is smaller and carries Vimeo’s encode. The two-minute check that tells them apart is in download original files from Vimeo. Trailers and previews count too: download them with the films.

If you plan to cancel Vimeo after 20 November

Vimeo’s seller FAQ says the shutdown does not delete your videos; they stay under the plan’s storage terms. Its help center says source files are kept while the paid plan is kept. Download first, then cancel, never the other way round.

Step 3

Re-host the films,
and test it before you announce it.

Wherever the films go next, upload the masters from step two, not the converted copies, and watch one end to end on a phone and on a desktop before anyone else does. If the shop sells downloads, download one and open it. A broken link on launch day is the one thing buyers who are already unsure will not forgive.

Here, the move is free and self-serve: sign in to Vimeo once, click Import all, hands off. The files move server to server, a few hours for a large library, and titles, posters and descriptions come with them. Original uploads come over only when Vimeo retained and exposes them, which is why step two is not optional; existing Vimeo links, comments and analytics do not transfer. Films play as you exported them, with no additional video or audio re-encode, so the file you check in step two is the file buyers get. The import is covered in move Vimeo videos without re-uploading, and the shop itself in how Uncompressed On Demand works.

Step 4

Re-grant prior buyers:
the Prior buyers tool.

Vimeo’s viewer FAQ (read 25 September 2026) says purchases cannot be transferred to other platforms, and the shutdown notice says the same. The people on your step-one CSV paid you once. Here is how they get the film back without paying again and without creating an account.

1

Export

Take the opted-in buyer CSV from step one. A header row with a column named email, in any position, is enough; so is one address per line.

2

Upload

Under the film cards in your On Demand dashboard, open Prior buyers, pick the priced film, and paste or upload the list.

3

Done

Every valid address gets streaming access at no charge and the same email a buyer here receives, in your voice, with the link that opens the film on any device. No account, no password.

Safe to run twice

An address that already holds the film is skipped and gets no second email. Unreadable entries are shown back to you so you can fix them.

A record for every grant

Each address is written at zero before anything is sent, so your books explain why someone holds a film they never paid for here.

Up to 2,000 a day per film

Each film accepts up to 2,000 new addresses per rolling day. A longer list continues the next day; nothing is lost.

Nothing charged

Not to you, not to them. The tool requires the On Demand add-on, which is the only fee involved.

Vimeo’s seller FAQ also says Vimeo Support will notify your buyers on your behalf if you send your On Demand URL and your new store link. Do that after step three, so the link they receive already works, and it reaches buyers who never opted in to your updates.

Step 5

Set your prices,
before the announcement, not after.

Decide per film: a streaming price, a download price, or both. A download is the file for good, so it is usually the higher price. Here the minimum is USD 1 per film per format, and you can cut a free preview whose length you choose; the preview is a separate file, so the full film is never sent to a non-buyer. Once a film is on sale it is locked everywhere else: portfolio, embeds and share links no longer play it, and only buyers get it.

Test one price for a few weeks before changing it, and never judge a price on a single day of sales. The pricing rules and what is not offered are in sell your film online without commission.

After the five steps

Announce the new address to the step-one list, to Vimeo Support for the rest, and everywhere the old link was. The money side of the move, Vimeo OTT Starter against a month here with every assumption stated, is in Vimeo OTT vs Uncompressed On Demand. The move itself is free and self-serve: sign in to Vimeo once, click Import all, hands off. The page written for Vimeo On Demand sellers is here and the plans are on pricing.

Questions

Frequently asked

When exactly does Vimeo On Demand shut down?

Buyer access ends on 20 November 2026, per Vimeo's shutdown notice read 28 September 2026. Before that, uploads were blocked on 22 August, new purchases on 21 September, and final seller payouts ran on 24 September 2026.

Can I export my full buyer list from Vimeo?

No. Vimeo's seller FAQ, read 25 September 2026, says you can export the viewers who opted in to receive updates from your page, as a CSV from the Audience tab, and that full buyer lists are not provided for privacy reasons. Export what is offered now; after the shutdown there is nothing left to export.

Will Vimeo delete my videos on 20 November?

Vimeo's seller FAQ, read 25 September 2026, says the underlying videos are not deleted by the shutdown and stay in the account under the plan's storage terms. The storefront, the prices and the buyers' access are what end. Downloading your originals is still step two, because the files stay only while the plan does.

Do I need uncompressed.io for this checklist?

No. Steps one, two and five apply wherever you go. Steps three and four describe how re-hosting and re-granting work here, because that is what we can vouch for; the same two jobs exist on any platform you pick.

Re-host, re-grant, reopen.

Uncompressed On Demand is USD 39 a month or USD 429 a year on top of any plan: a shop under your name, sales on your own payment account with no commission (you keep 100% of the sale), and a Prior buyers tool that gives everyone who already paid their film back.
